Becker softball hosted their first game of the season and are ready to hit the ground running.
Vs. Saints
The Bulldogs took on the #3 team in St. Francis Saints and lost 5-2.
In the top of the first, the Saints hit back-to-back doubles giving them a 1-0 lead.
Another run was added in the second and two more in the third which made the score 4-0 for the Saints.
Becker came back in the bottom of the third when Kenley Nicolas reached on an error, then proceeded to advance on an Ady Petty single. Nicolas scored on a steal to make it 4-1.
Another run was awarded to the Saints in the top of the fourth making the score 5-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Becker player Lauren Ergen hit a single and Kate Wipper advanced on a walk. After two strikeouts, Nicolas then loaded the bases on a walk and Petty also drew a walk driving in the Bulldogs’ final run.
Jaimee Cook struck out 13 Saints during the game.
Vs. North Branch
Becker’s next game was in North Branch and Becker held nothing back, pounding out a solid 10-0 win.
Petty was the first to score in the first inning to go up 1-0.
In the next inning, Wipper scored off of a Nicolas single making the score 2-0. Cook would go on to score off of a Viking error to make it 3-0.
The Bulldogs took charge in the third inning with three runs on four hits and two walks. The scorers included Petty, Nicolas, and Allie Duncombe making the score at 6-0.
Becker tacked on another four runs in the top of the fifth to cap the scoring.
Cook struck out 10 batters and only allowed just two hits from the Vikings.
Vs. Monticello
The last game of the week was against Monticello and Becker prevailed in a low-scoring affair.
Petty rewarded her team with a 1-0 lead after she scored on a wild pitch.
Subsequently, Monticello tied the game on their own wild pitch in the bottom of the second.
Later, in the top of the fifth, Petty scored another run off of a Bell Hunter single and an insurance run was added in the sixth when Ergen reached on an error and Karli Kirk came in to score on a Petty single. Final score was Becker 3, Monticello 1.
Cook went all seven innings with 11 strikeouts and only three hits from the Magic.
Becker is currently 2-1 in the Mississippi 8 Conference. Their next games will take place against Annandale, Zimmerman, and Big Lake. Youth Night will take place on April 24 in Becker where all youths are welcome and fun giveaways will take place.
