The Becker Bulldog softball and baseball teams hosted their annual Strikeout Cancer games against the Monticello Magic this past week.
Thousands of dollars were raised by the end of the night to support a local, deserving Becker family.
Vs. Magic
The Magic started the game off with a 1-0 lead in the first inning. It wasn’t until the bottom of the fourth where Becker came back to gain a 2-1 lead off a Bella Hunter single.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ady Petty hit a single and Lauren Ergen followed with her first varsity home run making the final score 4-1.
Vs. Thunder
Next up, the Bulldogs traveled to Zimmerman where they beat the Thunder, 8-4.
The Bulldogs started strong with a lead in the top of the first, but the Thunder tied the score in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the third, the Bulldogs added two more runs to go up 3-1.
Another two were added in the fifth for the Bulldogs to reach 5-1, but the Thunder answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-4.
Jaimee Cook came through with a two-run single and one more additional run would be added on to make the final score 8-4.
Lauren Peters went all seven innings on the mound and Lauren Ergen had two hits on the day.
Vs. Cardinals
The Bulldogs tacked on another win when they took on the Alexandria Cardinals.
Allie Duncombe and Lauren Peters hit RBI singles in the top of the first to make the score 2-0 for the Bulldogs.
The Cardinals tallied one run to tightened things up, but Peters kept them at bay.
Another two runs were added on for the Bulldogs when Bella Hunter hit a two-run single in the sixth. Another run was added later as the Bulldogs finished off the Cardinals with a 7-5 win.
Peter’s notched her third win of the week.
Two hits in the game were achieved by Kenley Nicolas, Ady Petty, Allie Duncombe, Lauren Peters, and Katie Wipper.
Vs. Storm
The winning streak would come to an end when the Bulldogs played against the Sauk Rapids Storm.
The Storm took the lead in the first inning with three runs.
A run was scored by both teams in the second making the score 4-1.
The Bulldogs started to close the gap in the fifth with two runs, but the sixth inning was where the Bulldogs really shined with five runs making the score 8-4.
Not to be outdone, the Storm would come back in the bottom of the seventh with five runs of their own to make the final score, 9-8.
Vs. Saints
Another loss fell upon the Bulldogs when they faced the #4 ranked team, Saints of St Francis.
Kenley Nicolas would start the Bulldogs off strong with a run in the top of the first. However, in the bottom of the first, the Saints notched four runs, including a three-run homer.
The Bulldogs tried to rally in the fifth when they scored two runs, but the Saints would counter with three runs in the bottom of the inning to make the final score, 7-3.
