Becker Legion downs Princeton, 9-3

Dalton Fouquette blasted a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Becker Legion defeated Princeton 9-3 Tuesday evening in Becker.

“It was nice to get a win,” said Manager Matt Eigen.  “Our offense came through with multiple players contributing at the plate.”

Becker showed balance throughout the game as Will Thorn had an RBI single in the first inning and Bennett Tatge’s single scored Kenny Foster in the second inning for the early lead.

In the third, Zach Wenner led off with a double and scored on Fouquette’s single.

In the big fifth inning, Andrew Kolbinger and Wenner both had hits before Noah Mohs drew a walk to load the bases.  That brought up Fouquette, who hit his big home run as part of his overall three hit, six RBI performance.

Zach Wenner also had three hits in the game and was the starting pitcher, going three innings.  Kolbinger pitched the next three and Cam Fischer finished off the last inning for Becker.

Drop pair to STMA

Last Thursday, the team traveled to STMA and took on a pair of teams from the much larger district.  Becker dropped the opener 12-3 before putting together an overall good effort in the second game despite losing 8-3.

Game One

In the first game, Becker scored two runs to open the game, as Wenner doubled, Luke Eigen tripled and Thorn singled to give Becker a quick 2-0 lead.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t hold up as five different Becker pitchers were haunted by walks during the game, allowing STMA to consistently put runs across the board.

Game Two

In the second game, STMA put up five runs in the first inning behind a walk, hit by pitch and three singles.  From there, Becker played an even game.

“We were in it, as it was 5-3 heading into the fourth inning,” said Manager Eigen.

Fouquette was the starting pitcher and after the rough beginning, he settled in and went 5-1/3 innings before Thorn finished things up.

Offensively, Becker scored in the first inning behind a single from Eigen, who then stole second and scored on a Fouquette single.  In the third inning, Thorn and Ryan Groskreutz each had RBI singles.

Thursday night, Monticello was scheduled to come to Becker, while the St. Cloud Chutes will come to town Monday night August 3.

Both games are 6 p.m. starts.
