Becker gymnastics take 2nd at Invitational

The Becker Bulldog gymnastics team took second place out of seven teams with a score of 139.7 in the Hornet Invitational, hosted by Big Lake.

First place was awarded to Monticello, who had a score of 143.

Beam Routine

The first event of the night was beam. This turned out to be the hardest event of the night for the Bulldogs, pushing them to deal with the pressure that comes along with navigating the beam.

The Bulldogs ended up deducting over two points in falls which did not help their overall score in the end. The top finisher for beam for the Bulldogs was Alyse Denne, who tied for third with a total of 9.15 points.

Floor Routine

This event was a huge uplift for the Bulldogs with many of the athletes competing very well.

“I was impressed with the way the team rebounded after beam,” said Coach Jen Harmoning.

The top finishers for floor for the Bulldogs were Maggie Granning with a fourth place finish (9.4) and Karli Kirk with a ninth place finish and a score of 9.1.

Vault Routine

The Bulldogs are continuing to improve on this routine, with some of the girls’ goals including keeping clean landings, showing more amplitude, and raising the level of difficulty of their vault routines.

The top finishers for vault for the Bulldogs were Karli Kirk with a fourth place tie (9.25) and Alyse Denne with an 11th place tie (8.85).

Bars Routine

This was another successful event for the Bulldogs with a new season high score of 34.1 points.

“It’s what we need to do to reach the top levels in the state, so we’ll keep working at it,” said Coach Harmoning.

The top finishers for bars for the Bulldogs were Karli Kirk with a second place finish (9.1), Maggie Graning with a seventh place tie (8.5), and Alyse Denne with a ninth place finish (8.45).

All-Around

In the all-around, Karli Kirk (Junior) was the Bulldogs top overall finisher with a fourth place finish (35.85). Seventh-grader Alyse Denne was the other Bulldog top finisher with a seventh place finish and a final score of 35.45.
