Becker dance is off to State!

The Becker dance team is going to state for the fourth year in a row with the team being made up of seventh through 12th graders.

The first time in history that Becker dance had ever made it to state was four years ago. They have worked really hard in order to make their routines perfect and to continue to make it to state every year.

There are two separate state tournaments, one for Jazz and one for Kick. There are two separate routines for both Jazz and Kick that they will perform at state. The routines are created by coaches, leaders, and choreographers.

This year, the choreographers are Mia Kinzel and Janessa Toulouse. The team has six coaches in total with the head coach being Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen. Nadia has been with the dance team for 11 seasons with seven of those years as the sole head coach. The captains this year consist of Rylee Felton, Ashlyn Frey, and Payton Lechner. Along with the captains are pod leaders. The pod leaders are below the captains and their job is to relay information to their group of teammates and then relay back to the coaches. The pod leaders this year include Natalie Pozorski, Ali Vieau, Taylor Weismann, Ainsley Holm, Kendall Lamp, and the captains.

There are two rounds to the state tournament; last year Becker Jazz made it to the final round for the first time. The teams that make it into the final round of the tournament have two athletes awarded “all tournament team” for their outstanding athletic performance. Last year’s winners from Becker were Ashley Matvick and Hannah Oakes. Over the past five years, Becker Dance has won the kick conference title. This year; however, they lost the title to St. Francis. They did win the Jazz conference title for the sixth year in a row.

Becker also took second place in sections for both Jazz and Kick. At the end of their conference season, however, the Becker Dance team won the overall championship even with the second place Kick performance.

All conference athletes this year were Rylee Felton, Ashlyn Frey, Payton Lechner, Kendall Lamp, and Ali Vieau.

Honorable Mentions this year were Jenessa Toulouse, Taylor Weismann, Mia Kinzel, and Lila Zinken.

Teams can only have up to four all state participants and Becker decided to have Mia Kinzel and Payton Lechner represent Jazz and Rylee Felton and Ali Vieau represent Kick.
