Becker boys 2nd at True Team track qualifier

Tuesday evening, the Becker boys track team participated in a True Team qualifier meet held at Princeton.

“This meet and results will be used to run a virtual meet to determine a true team section champion and eventually a true team state champion,” Coach Paul Schmidt said.

Teams competing in the meet were Becker, Princeton, Milaca, and Zimmermann, with the host Princeton Tigers winning the meet with 151 points.  Becker finished second with 129 points, followed by Zimmerman (3rd with 76.5)  and Milaca (4th with 56.5).

“The Bulldogs were led by two athletes who swept their events,” Schmidt said.

Tyson Ricker won the 1600 (4:38.19) and the 3200 (10:29) to continue his dominance in the distance events for the Bulldogs.

Eighth grader Owen Angell won all four of his events, showing the steady performance and continuous improvement that has led him to be one of the top tracksters in his grade level across the entire Mississippi 8 Conference.  He topped the competition in the Pole Vault (12’), High Jump (5’6”), 300 Hurdles (44.78) and was also a member of the winning 4x400 relay (4:46.9).  Joining Angell in that event were teammates Carter Leither, Cade Stommes and Luke MacDonald.

Schmidt also noted several other performers who posted season best scores, including Michael Schmitz  who posted a time of 17.76 in winning the 110 high hurdles.  He also placed fifth in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles.

Lukas Karel captured some important points for the Bulldogs in placing second in the 3200 (10:58.9) and third in the 1600 (4:58.6).

Becker was represented well in the 800 meter run — finishing in places 2-4 — with Mason Becker (2nd at 2:22), Caleb Reckelberg (3rd at 2:30) and Alex Kinney (4th at 2:35).

“Carter Leither also scored big in the 400 with a second place finish and a time of 54.47 seconds,” Schmidt said.  “He was also second in the 200 with a time of 24.72 seconds and grabbed a 4th place in the high jump.”

In the long jump, it was again Carter Reckelberg leading the way with a 18’2” jump which secured 2nd place for the Bulldogs, while he also grabbed fourth place finishes in the 100 and the 200.

Cade Stommes picked up a second place in the triple jump with a leap of 35’ 9” and Reckelberg added a fourth place in that event.  Luke MacDonald was 5th in both sprinting events for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will compete next week in one final tune up meet at Big Lake before the M8 Conference meet on June 2nd.
