The Becker boys baseball team went 2-3 this week, losing to Hutchinson, getting swept in a doubleheader to St. Cloud, then sweeping Zimmerman in a doubleheader at home.
Hutchinson 19, Becker 1
Becker watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 18-run loss to Hutchinson last Friday on the road.
In the first inning, Hutchinson’s Christian Kurth drove in one run when he doubled.
Hutchinson scored nine runs in the third inning. Brooks Telecky, Dan Van De Steeg, Lane Glaser, Austin Dettman, Kurth, and Ethan Beffert powered the big inning with RBIs.
Zack Wenner took the loss for Becker. He lasted two innings, allowing 14 hits and 10 runs while walking one.
Weston Schug, Kreeden Blomquist, Noah Mohs, and Nathanael Nelson each collected one hit to lead the Bulldogs.
Cathedral 10, Becker 2
Monday, Becker traveled to St. Cloud to take on the Crusaders and lost the first of a doubleheader by eight runs.
The game was closer than the final score indicated as Cathedral batted in the top of the fifth with the score knotted at two. when Brandon Hartung drew a walk and eventually breaking the tie when he came around to score.
Cathedral opened the scoring in the second inning, when Rudy Sauerer hit a solo homer.
In the bottom of the inning, Becker tied things up at two when an error led to two unearned runs.
Weston Schug was on the mound for Becker and he surrendered six runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out two. Camron Fisher and Matthew Moe entered the game in relief, throwing two innings and one inning.
Schug went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Becker.
Cathedral 5, Becker 1
Becker fell 5-1 to Cathedral in the second game of the doubleheader Monday despite out-hitting the Crusaders six to four.
St. Cloud scored four runs in the fifth inning. Andrew Weisser, Jared Klein, and Janguda all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Moe took the loss for the Bulldogs, going four innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out two and walking zero.
Dalton Fouquette led Becker with three hits in three at bats.
Becker 9, Zimmerman 8
Becker took Thursday's game one in dramatic fashion, walking off a 9-8 victory over Zimmerman at home.
The game was tied at eight with Becker batting in the bottom of the eighth. Zack Wenner singled on a 0-2 count, scoring the winning run.
A five-run fourth inning propelled the Bulldogs to a big lead before Zimmerman rallied for five runs in their comeback. Colby Millar, Andrew Thompson, Millar, and Ryan McMahon picked up RBIs to lead the rally.
Becker got things started in the first inning when Kreeden Blomquist singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
Zimmerman scored one run in the top of the fourth, but Becker answered with one of their own to go up 2-1. Becker added another when Dalton Fouquette singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
The Bulldogs notched three runs in the third inning when Nathanael Nelson and Matthew Krenz tallied RBIs.
Fouquette was Becker’s starter on the mound, going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three.
Becker tallied 13 hits in the game with Fouquette, Wenner, James Schafer and Blomquist each managing multiple hits for Becker. Fouquette led Becker with four hits in five at bats.
Zimmerman tallied eight hits with Wilkins going 3-for-4 to lead the Thunder.
Becker 6, Zimmerman 0
Matthew Moe didn't allow a single run against Zimmerman, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Becker to a 6-0 victory Thursday at home.
Becker secured the victory, thanks to four runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught came from doubles by Zack Wenner and Nathanael Nelson.
Moe went five innings, allowing no runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one.
Carlin took the loss for Zimmerman, going five innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits and striking out four.
The Bulldogs collected 10 hits with Wenner and Dalton Fouquette each notching multiple hits. Wenner finished 3-for-3.
