PITCHER MATT MOE had a loss against Tech and a save against Albany.

Baseball Team Plays Up And Down Ball, Winning 2 Games

The Becker baseball team went 2-4 this past week, beating Albany and Little Falls.

Princeton 1, Becker 0
The Bulldogs traveled to Princeton last Friday and lost a nail-biter by a score of 1-0.

“It was a very well played game by both teams,” said Head Coach Tyler Niedfeldt.

It took a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Tigers to pull out the win.  Becker hit the ball well, but many of their hits were right at Tiger players.

The Bulldogs finished the game with six hits, but were unable to get the clutch hit when they needed a run.   Niedfeldt went with four different pitchers, who put up a team-combined, two-hitter on six strikeouts and two walks.
Evan Epperly led the ‘Dawgs, going 2-for-3 and adding a stolen base.

St. Cloud Tech 17, Becker 1
Becker jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on the road Monday only to watch Tech score 17 unanswered runs to finish the game in five innings.

A two-error second inning led to eight of the runs.

Matt Moe took the loss on the mound after pitching three innings.

Weston Schug and Moe each had one hit and one walk to pace the Bulldogs.

“It was a tough loss to swallow, but something that we need to learn from,” said the head coach. “To put it behind us and move onto the next game.  It is good to have a little bit of amnesia after a game like this one.”

Foley 4, Becker 1
In a game played Tuesday on the road, the Bulldogs continued to be mired in an offensive slump.

Kendal Hanson toed the runner for Becker on a rainy afternoon.  He went the distance, taking the loss.

“He pitched well, but didn't get any run support,” said Niedfeldt. “We struggled to string any hits together, scattering our four hits over four innings.  Right now, our biggest problem has been getting multiple hits in an inning and producing the clutch hit with runners on base.”

Niedfeldt said his team is hitting the ball hard and on the ground and is optimistic that their luck will turn around.

Becker 4, Albany 2
April 28, the Bulldogs traveled to Avon to take on the Albany Huskies in a make-up game.

The bats loosened up and the Bulldogs were able to give pitcher Weston Schug some much-needed offense to get him his first win of the season.

Schug went five innings and had five strikeouts while walking none.  Moe came in for the two-inning save, converting four strikeouts.

The Bulldogs tallied nine hits with Matt Krenz  going 2-for-3 with a walk and a pair of RBI's.  Kendal Hanson and Zack Halvorson also had two hits.

Niedfeldt said his team was finally able to get the clutch hits with runners in scoring position and his defense was able to seal the win.

Becker 7, Little Falls 5
Becker came out swinging Tuesday, compiling six runs on seven hits in just the first inning to lift the Bulldogs to a big GRC win.

Little Falls came into the contest ranked in the top five in the state.

Kreeden Blomquist paced the Bulldog offense with three hits, two for doubles, and two runs scored.  Moe and Halvorson had two RBI's apiece.  Seven players finished with at least one hit on the night.
Hanson picked up his second win of the season, notching six strikeouts on just two walks while giving up just three earned runs.  Schug came on in relief for the two-inning save.

Cathedral 6, Becker 2
The Bulldogs traveled to St. Cloud Municipal Stadium Thursday to play Cathedral and lost by four.

Rudy Saurer went 6-1/3 innings, striking out eight and walking three, to get the win for St. Cloud.

Saurer allowed three hits and two earned runs. Jeremiah Thyen and Jared Klein each recorded outs in the seventh to finish it.

Tyler Bautch went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for Cathedral.
