Baseball Team Loses Two To Fall To 1 2

The Becker Bulldog boys baseball team lost two games this past week to fall to 1-2 on the young season.

Mora 2, Becker 0

Mora’s Sam Johnson went all seven innings on the mound to get the win as the Mustangs blanked Becker Tuesday at home.

Johnson gave up just three hits.

“To be a successful baseball team you need three components  to win,” said Head Coach Chuck Stanger. “Pitching — which the Bulldogs have gotten. Defense — which the Bulldogs defense has been good. And finally, hitting — that on Tuesday against Mora, the Bulldogs bats where as cold as the weather.”

Becker starting pitcher Ryan Swanson was almost as impressive as Johnson, throwing five strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits. Jon Crowley came in  and threw shutout ball the last two innings. Eric Blomgren, Cody Gruenhagen and Zack Zimmer  were the only batters to get a hit off the Mora pitcher.

Brainerd 7, Becker 4

The Bulldogs traveled to Brainerd last Friday and “came up a little short in the run department,” Stanger said.

Swanson started for the Bulldogs, going three innings, giving up  five runs on seven hits. Sophomore Andrew Stanger followed Swanson, throwing the next three innings, giving up two runs on three hits.

Becker fell behind early but didn’t quit, battling  back to score two runs in the fourth on a double by Robby Benson.  Not done, the Bulldogs scored two more runs in the fifth with Stanger and Gruenhagen scoring, to put a scare in the Warriors, but the rally ended there.

The Bulldogs have a busy week coming up with a home game Monday  against Princeton at 4:30 p.m.,  Tuesday, the Bulldogs travel to Foley for a 5 p.m. contest and then  back home Thursday against the powerful Albany Huskies at 5 p.m. The ‘Dawgs finish the week at Sartell Friday.
