Bandits ends season with loss to Brewers

The Luxemburg Brewers knocked the Becker Bandits out of the Region 11C Amateur Baseball Tournament last Saturday with a 5-3 win in the consolation bracket semifinals.

Becker jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Josh Groskreutz led off with a single and later scored on a Keenan Hjermstad sacrifice fly.

The Brewers came back with three runs in the third inning and single scores in the fourth and fifth inning off Becker starter Weston Schug to take the 5-1 lead.

Becker came back in the sixth inning with a pair of runs, as Dalton Fouquette and Hermstad picked up RBI’s.  Neither team would score from there, as the pitchers from both teams took over.

Ryan Groskreutz relieved Schug to start the sixth inning and he was solid, working the final three innings while scattering just one hit.

The Bandits had many chances to put the tying and winning runs across the plate, stranding four runners at third base in the game and a total of eight runners in scoring position.

Fouquette led the Becker attack, going three-for-five, as the Bandits totaled 11 hits in the game to the Brewers’ 12.

Luxemburg would go on to lose to Kimball in the consolation finals, as the Express punched their ticket to the MBA State Tournament.
