After a successful first year, Becker Bulldogs Archery is getting ready for its second season.
“Last season was awesome,” said Head Coach Scott Brake. “The kids kept progressing and getting better and better.”
Thea team is organized in accordance with the National Archery in the School Program (NASP). It’s co-ed and open to students in fourth through twelfth grade. The sport consists of three divisions; the elementary division for fourth and fifth graders, the middle school division for sixth through eighth grade, and the high school division for ninth through twelfth. Each team consists of 12 to 24 students.
To prepare for the upcoming season, there will be an open house/registration night for parents and students Oct. 3 in the middle school gym from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Registration runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 11 and can completed at the open house or through community education.
A mandatory parent meeting is scheduled for Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school small auditorium, and a beginner instructional course will be held for all new archers Nov. 18-22.
Official practice begins Dec. 2. The archery season runs from January through March. This year the team will be competing in official NASP tournaments as well as the State Tournament in Foley at the end of March.
““We are very excited to see the start of our second season,” said Brake. “We are on schedule and are working on some really cool things that will enhance the experience for the student archers and their families!”
“If you want to know more about the program, come see us at our Open House Thurs., Oct. 3 in the Middle School gym between 5:30 and 8 p.m.”
