5 Hornet wrestlers compete at Rogers

Three Big Lake wrestlers finished in the top eight spots in their weight class at Rogers Holiday Matness last weekend.

Despite competing in just five  of 14 weight classes, the Hornets took 15th of 33 schools at the meet.

Carson Gellerman took the title at 189 pounds. After a first-round bye, the senior pinned Joshua Walker of Farmington at 1:41. He beat Tayden Ludescher of Dover-Eyota by tech fall, 17-2, then beat Jayden Kinsel-Rered of Two Rivers by tech fall, 19-0. He won the championship over Max Morgan of Mankato East by injury default.

Gant Volk took sixth at 114 pounds. After a bye he beat Adrian Chang of Coon Rapids, 11-9, before losing to Saitaro Kong of Apple Valley by tech fall. He pinned Theo Dos Santos of Two Rivers at 2:13, then lost a 9-6 decision to Nolan Lund of Rogers  before losing by pin to Michael Atkinson of Prior Lake in his final match.

Austin Frederickson took seventh at 215 pounds. After a bye, he lost by pin to Walker Harris of Foley. He came back in the consolation round to pin Armando Avalos of Two Rivers at 4:19. He had a forfeit win over Jack Pena of Andover, then beat Cashton Talcott of Rosemount, 4-1. After a 8-3 loss to Isaiah Olabode of Prior Lake, he beat Davian Vu of Blaine, 13-6 in his final match.

At 152, Dallas Sibbet beat Blake Herman of Tri-City United  by 16-0 tech fall. He beat Ryan Reminger of Lakeville South, 12-7 before losing by tech fall to undefeated Davis Parrow of Farmington. He lost his final match, 7-4 to Noah Trottier of Apple Valley.

At 172 Caleb Smith lost his first match by pin to Adam Vilanti of Rogers, then came back in the consolation rounds with a bye and then a pin of Charlie Truan of Wabasha-Kellogg at 0:36. He lost his final match by tech fall to Sam Holman of Edina.

The Hornets host a quad meet 5 p.m. next Friday (Jan. 10) and compete in a multiple-team tournament in Rockford the next day.
