Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6 at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake for William “Willy” Schoborg, age 87, of St. Cloud who passed away Thursday at his home. Rev. Virgil Helmin will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Parish prayers were on Friday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.
William Schoborg was born Jan. 27, 1927 in Hastrup, Germany to Bernard Heinrich Schoborg and Agnes Clementine Ratermann. They emigrated to the U.S. in 1929, settling in southwest Minnesota near Rushmore. Willy graduated from Worthington High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the end of WW II, teaching boxing and serving as part of the Occupational Forces in Mannheim. He moved to St. Cloud in the spring of 1952 where he met and fell in love with the neighbor girl, Dorothy Prom. They married Sept. 26, 1953 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Willy was a heavy equipment and drag-line operator, working first in the mines in Spring Valley. He also worked for Corrigan Brothers and Landwehr. He was a member of St. Marcus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Local 49ers. Willy enjoyed tractors, engines, sculptures, garage sales, farming, music, and dancing with his wife. He was an honest, loyal, fun loving person who lived life to the fullest. Willy loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His faith was very important to him.
Willy is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 61 years, Dorothy of St. Cloud; children, Mary of St. Louis Park, Joe (Lori) of St. Cloud, Katie (Dale) Waletzko of Clear Lake, Julia of Robbinsdale, Dena (John) Voigt of St. Cloud, Louise (Mike) Heim of Hayward, WI, Susie (Mark) Knowles of St. Cloud, Teresa (Lester) Johnson of Foley, Pete (Laurel) of Cold Spring, Matt (Dawna) of St. Cloud, Agnes (Duane) Dobmeier of Avon and Simon (Dawn) of St. Cloud; brother, Paul Schoborg of Delano; 39 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
