Patrick “Pat” R. Walters

Patrick “Pat” R. Walters, age 66, of Eau Claire, WI and formerly of Clearwater, MN, died, Thursday, April 14 at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens Memory Care in Altoona, WI.
 
Pat was born August 13, 1949 in Guttenberg, Iowa to Lloyd R. and Florence A. (Hansel) Walters. He attended High School at Colesburg/Edgewood and went on to join the U.S. Army, where he served his country for four years, during the Vietnam era, partially in Germany.  It was then he met his wife to be, Kathy Faber.
 
Pat’s Military Service was very important to him and he attained the rank of Sgt. He was a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America, and a member of the American Legion. He served as commander and vice commander at the Clearwater American Legion Post, as well as serving on the Honor Guard. He volunteered and was a board member of the St. Cloud Stand Down Program. He was honored to volunteer for Veterans organizations. Pat was also a member of and President of AFGE Food Inspectors Local 488 for many years, serving the Midwest.
 
He was employed by the USDA as a Federal Food Inspector where he worked for thirty-seven years. Being a food inspector he was very concerned with Food Safety. Pat enjoyed cooking, and he was very passionate for the outdoors. He loved to hunt deer, bear, pheasant, goose, and duck. A second love was fishing. On his farm in Clearwater, he enjoyed tractors and doing field work. He and Kathy had horses, but his favorite was raising his Highland Cattle which are low on fat and low on cholesterol.
 
Pat is survived by his lifetime partner, Kathy of Colfax; his daughter, Jessica Walters of Eau Claire; one sister, Myrna Niehaus; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sharon Walters; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chester; and two sisters, Darnelle and Nancy.
 
A Memorial Service will take place at 12 noon, Saturday, April 23 at Colfax Lutheran Church in Colfax, with Pastor Leslie Walck officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Military Honors will be accorded following the service by American Legion Post 131 of Colfax at the church.
