Norman was born February 19, 1933 on the home farm in Becker to Alden and Laura (Kolbinger) Johnson. Norman attended and graduated from Becker Public School in 1951 and was later drafted and proudly served in the U.S. Army from March of 1954 then honorably discharged in February of 1956.

Norman married Margaret Olson on September 21, 1956 in Aitkin.  Norman was a dairy farmer with his dad until the dairy barn burned to the ground in the early 60’s.  Norm and his dad sold the dairy cows then his dad passed away and Norman continued with his dad’s Pioneer Seed Corn business and the family farm. Norman sold Pioneer Seed for 38 years and operated the family farm while continuing to grow corn, soybeans, rye and alfalfa and also some sweet corn with his family.

Norman and Margaret along with their 4 children Steve, Scott, Shelly and Shawn began growing other vegetables and the rest is history as Norm’s Farm Market still exists 60 years later and is now ran by the fourth and fifth generations continuing a legacy of being a family farm for over 133 years.  Norman enjoyed farming the most and being on the family farm.

Norm also enjoyed traveling in his earlier years with Margaret and went on many trips with his siblings, going to Canada fishing in the summer, going to Clarence Olsons cabin fishing and Lake of the Woods ice fishing many times every winter.  Norm loved snowmobiling with the gang, going to snowmobile races and being the pit crew in his oldest son’s races including the Indy 500 snowmobile race from Canada to St. Paul.

Norman won many awards with the Minnesota and National Corn and Soybean Growers Associations, Pioneer Seed along with opening up his farm to corn and soybean variety plots, experimental crops and was a part of the Anoka Sand Plains Project, partnered with NRCS and SWCD in different practices and demonstrations.  Most of all Norman supported many groups and organizations within this community that he had lived in all of his life.  Norm was very proud of being a farmer and even more proud of his family.

Survivors include his children, Steve (Jean) Johnson of Clear Lake, Shelly (Buzz) Lorincz of Bridgewater, NJ, and Shawn (Susie) Johnson of Becker; daughter-in-law, Sue Johnson of Becker; siblings, Marylou Johnson of Fridley and Ann Johnson of Becker; grandchildren, Jeff (Fawn Peterson), Sara (Chad) Peterson, Stacey (Jeremy Scott), Sam(Samantha Crowley), Heather (Dan Pisanchyn), Matt (Kelsey) Johnson, Dana (Tyler) Gohman, Brigid Lorincz and great grandchildren, Harper Peterson, Odin Peterson, Emersyn Toomer.  Norman is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; son, Scott; and siblings, Maree Lange, Rose Thorsten, Ronald Johnson, Alden (Junie) Johnson and Infant Milton Johnson.
