Norman George Schmidt, age 69 of Monticello passed away Fri., March 21, 2014. Visitation was Tues. March 25, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 East 7th Street, Monticello. Further visitation was one hour prior to the funeral at the church Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial was Weds., March 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Fr. Tony VanderLoop and Fr. Bill Murtaugh officiated. There will be a private interment. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Norman was born March 28, 1944 in Minneapolis to William and Elizabeth (McArdle) Schmidt. He attended and graduated from St. Michael High School in 1962. He farmed for several years in the Becker area, and continued his love of farming throughout his life. He also worked for JME of Monticello for several years. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren.
Norman is survived by two daughters Darcy (Tyson) Burke, Devon (Joe) Moline; four grandchildren Keagan, Carter, Damon, and Amree; siblings J. William (Eva) Schmidt, Michael J. (Marcia) Schmidt, Tom (Judy) Schmidt, Terry (Dennis) Pausch, Bob (Shirley) Schmidt, Steven (Xiuqi) Schmidt, and Rick Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Betty; and wife Mary in 2008.
