Marvin Orville Rydberg Sr., 88, of Big Lake, MN, went home to the Lord on Friday, August 16th, while at the Monticello Community Hospital. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Rydberg in 2012 and his firstborn child, Marvin Rydberg Jr. in 2014. He was born to Oystin Kaltveit, who immigrated to the United States from Norway, and Pearl Bendickson in Lake City, SD, in 1935. He was one of six children, all who went home to be with the Lord before him: Ray Kaltveit, Allen Strand, Gladys Roderick, Cecelia O’Brien and Roger Kleven. Marvin has four children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In 1951, Marvin joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War, which afforded him the opportunity to work in the new, burgeoning computers industry. In this industry, Marv did everything from teaching at Stanford University, in Stanford California, to Deputy Director of IT. Marvin retired in 2003 from Anoka Ramsey Community College, serving in their IT department.
Marvin was known for his jovial personality and infectious laugh. He was always around town wearing one of his many hats adorned with buttons and pins, such as, “hugs are better than drugs,” and was quick to give you a hug wherever he found you. After his first wife, Marv met his loving and caring life-partner Sandy Olson, and for nine years together, they went forward sharing many adventures and travels. Marv spent his later years giving back to the community. He served as a hospital board member for Monticello Hospital, a member and former chaplain in the American Legion, and doing multiple community outreaches through local churches. Marvin was truly a blessing in many peoples’ lives, especially his family’s. He will surely be missed, but fondly remembered by all who lives he touched.
