Marlyn (Marly) Callanan, age 78, of Mankato, MN, passed away at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato Thurs., Dec. 12, 2013 with her daughters by her side. 
 
Marlyn was born Oct.  14, 1935 in Becker, MN to Theodore and Irene (Johnson) Anderson.  She graduated from Becker High School in 1953 and received her nursing diploma from Hamline University in 1956.  Marlyn was united in marriage with Paul Callanan Jr. July 28, 1956.  She worked as a registered nurse at Asbury Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis, St. Cloud Hospital, and Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato.  She spent the majority of her nursing career at the Mankato Clinic before retiring in 1998.  Marlyn enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, quilting, canning, and going for long walks.  Marlyn loved traveling and spending time at the family cabin in northern Minnesota.  Marlyn’s greatest accomplishment and joy came from raising her five daughters who saw her as the most caring, giving, and thoughtful mother. 
 
Marly is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Callanan, Kathryn (James) Raley, Jennifer (Robert) Stevens, and Sandra Callanan; grandchildren, Matthew Callanan, Diana Kane Drenckhahn, Megan Kane Petrowich, Sarah Nerswick, William Callanan, Jamison Stevens, Natalie Raley, Annika Stevens, and Connor Raley; son-in-law, Greg Altemus; brother, Duane (Corrine) Anderson; sister, Sharon (Howard) Jensen; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Anderson and Marilyn Anderson; her Hamline nursing classmates; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; daughter, Karyn Altemus; sister, Devota (Pete) Wornson; brothers, Bud Anderson and Kenny Anderson; and many beloved pets.
 
Mass of Christian Burial was Mon., Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Don Rauscher, S.J. officiating.  Visitation was held from 11-1 p.m. Monday at the church.  Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.  Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
 
Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association, Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice, or the donor’s choice.
