Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Mon., May 1 at Community United Methodist Church, Monticello, for John “Spud” Edling, age 81 of Clear Lake, who passed away Sunday, April 16 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, NV. Rev. Carrie Binnie will officiate and burial will be at Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sun., April 30 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Becker and one hour prior to the service at the church.
John was born February 14, 1936 in Minneapolis to Stanley and Ruth (Ryden) Edling. He married Beverly Brunsell on Oct. 27, 1962 in Brooklyn Center and they lived in Brooklyn Park until moving to Clear Lake in 1977. John and his brother operated Edling Brothers Potato Farm from 1963 until retiring in 1995. He was a member of Clear Lake American Legion Post #354. John was a charter member of the Clear Lake Lions and was very active, serving as President, District Governor, and International Director. He was proud to be a Lion and made many friends in the Lions Group. He was also a member of the Sherburne Co. Fair Board and the National Potato Board. John enjoyed volunteering with the Lions, visiting with people, traveling, ice fishing, mowing lawn, and planting his flower and vegetable gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Clear Lake; daughter, LuAnn Edling (Ivan Spencer) of Lakeville; grandson, Aeron Spencer; and siblings, Joan Edling of St. Cloud and Jerome (Anita) Edling of Clear Lake.
