John L. Jensen, age 81, of Big Lake, MN, died Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024, at St. Cloud Hospital. He was born April 17, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota and grew up in Mound. Many of his summers as a youth were spent at the family resort near Ponsford, MN. John graduated from Mound High School in 1960. After a semester at Wartburg College, he joined the Air Force. He especially enjoyed his time as a chaplain’s assistant in Italy for part of his enlistment. After the service, John served as a police officer before his love for the open road had him behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler. In his over three million miles of driving a semi, John has driven in every state in the US except Hawaii and every province of Canada. John married Marlene Gibson on December 28, 2002. They enjoyed their time at their home in rural Big Lake. John was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte and Leslie Jensen and his brother, Paul. He is survived by his wife, Marlene and stepson Tyronne Gibson; the mother of his children, Lois Scheunemann; his sons Scott (Kaitlyn) and Brian (Amanda); his grandchildren, Jaxon, Asher, Daniella, Carla, and Edwin: and his sisters, Carol Harrison and Mary Twitchell (Stephen). A celebration of life for John will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the VA in memory of John.
