Hazel Adelle Heath, age 96 of Onamia and formerly of Big Lake, passed away Weds., Nov. 27, 2013 at the Mille Lacs Health System of Onamia with her family by her side. There was a visitation Thurs., Dec. 5, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. There was a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. led by Jed Zimmerman. Private interment was at Big Lake Cemetery.
Hazel was born in Becker on Feb. 15,1917 to Frank J. “Joe” and Rosa belle “Rose” (Leverton) Borst, the third oldest of a family of sixteen children. She grew up in Becker and when she left home, she worked cleaning homes and caring for children. Dec. 6, 1939 she was united in marriage to Ronald Heath in Elk River. The couple lived in the Elk River area and then in Big Lake for over 55 years. She was a homemaker and also had various other jobs outside the home. The greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, canning, gardening especially flowers, bird watching, fishing, playing cards and Scrabble, and reading. She lived a happy life, and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Rose Borst; husband of 37 years, Ronald; son Arnold Heath; sisters Grace, Violet (Betty), Ivy Jane, Martha and June; brothers John (Bud), Don, Warren, Clyde, Cal, Glenn and Bruce, and two infant brothers. Hazel is survived by her daughters Corrine (Gary) Bregenzer of Cookeville, TN, Jane (Earl) Studanski of Big Lake, Carol Heath of Monticello; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and her sister Donna Johnson of Becker, the youngest of sixteen siblings.
