Glenn Russell Johnson was born in Monticello, Minnesota on March 6, 1945, to Oscar and Elsie (Olson) Johnson. In 1965, he joined the Air Force as a mechanic and was soon sent to France then Germany. He was married to Gwen in May 1968. When he returned to the States in 1969, he worked at Baker Rambler in Monticello then landed a job at Anderson-Gilyard in Becker a year later where he worked for 47 years before the company was sold. Glenn was forced into a retirement he was not ready for but found peace with. So, with help from his children and grandchildren, he was able to finish much on his many “to-do” lists.
When he got sick near the end of January 2024, he had three final wishes. On Friday, September 6, 2024, Glenn passed away at home and surrounded by family. These were the first two. The third was to donate his body to science. When he passed, a team came from the University of Minnesota’s Anatomy Bequest program to pick him up. Near the end, he joked he was finally going to college on a free-ride scholarship.
Glenn was preceded in death by his father and mother and his two brothers Roger Johnson and Kenneth Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gwen Carlson - Johnson, daughters Gina Ward (Nathan), Geri Tvedt (Joel) and son Geoffrey Johnson (Holli), grandchildren: Andrew Nalty, Benjamin Nalty (Sarah), Zebulon Johnson, Ashlyn Tvedt, Brynn Johnson, Samuel Nalty, Elspeth Johnson, Zachariah Ward, Kendrick Johnson, Elijah Ward; his brother Donald Johnson (Debra) and sister Marilyn, sister-in-laws Laurel Johnson, Vivian Verke (Bruce), Marilee Sanborn (Daniel) and brother-in-law David Carlson (Nora) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
The Celebration of Life Service for Glenn will be on Saturday, September 14th, 2024 at the Becker Baptist Church. Visitation is from 1 to 3pm with the service at 3pm and luncheon to follow.
