Gerald “Jerry” Paul Goblirsch, 74, of Becker, Minnesota, and formerly of New Ulm, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
Memorial service will be 11 am on Monday, May 20, 2024, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Inurnment with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery Columbarium.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes – SOUTH Chapel, and will continue one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
A celebration of life will follow on Sunday, June 23, 2024 from 2-6 p.m. at 10650 150th Avenue, Becker, MN 55308.

Gerald was born in New Ulm, MN on March 8, 1950 to Paul and Elizabeth (Stueber) Goblirsch and lived on a small farm in Lafayette until he graduated from New Ulm Cathedral High School in 1968. On June 30 of 1969, Jerry pledged to serve for the United States Army as an MP in the Vietnam war until honorably discharged Jan 1, 1971. After returning home, Jerry worked for Lloyd feed Service, and Lafayette Excavating while also spending his time playing softball, and bowling. Gerald met his future bride, Barb (Stodola) in early 1980 and they were joined in marriage on October 2, 1982. In 1985, Jerry became employed with Heymann Construction, in New Ulm as a heavy equipment operator and remained with them until his retirement in 2011. He was also employed by Kraft Foods, working Friday night sanitation for many years during that same time frame. After his retirement from Heymann Construction, Jerry kept himself busy in the winter months doing Jerry’s snow removal, and in the summer months coaching softball and volleyball as well as helping his wife with her at home daycare business, ultimately becoming the “bonus grandpa” to many kiddos over the years. In 2019, Jerry and Barb moved to Becker, MN to live a quieter life. Jerry was a humble and generous man that always put the needs of others before his own and his passing will be mourned deeply by everyone who knew and loved him. Jerry’s memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends and all those who were honored to have had the privilege of knowing his unforgettable spirit.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Barb (Stodola) Goblirsch; his three children, Amber Schnurrer and her significant other Jeff, Rick (Jackie) Goblirsch and Scott Goblirsch and his significant other Vicki; his grandchildren, Taylee and Jayda Landquist, Kaden Schnurrer, Dylan Goblirsch and Skyler Zamzow; siblings, Eugene (Mary) Goblirsch, and Eunice Gitter and her significant other Ron; many nieces and nephews as well as a handful of grand fur babies.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Paul and Elizabeth (Stueber) Goblirsch; and his grandparents, Anton and Theresa Goblirsch and Edward and Caroline Stueber; his father-in-law, Thomas Stodola; and his brother-in-law, Roger Stodola.
