George I. Florek, age 66, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family, on November 21, 2014. Born on October 21, 1948, in St. Michael, MN, George spent his early years on a farm. He served in the U. S. Army from 1967 to 1970. George was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. George had his own business in heating and air conditioning until his health prevented him from continuing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Matilda. George is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Searle); six children, Tammy, Paul, Chris (Bridget), Diane (Wayne), Rebecca (Tim) and Marty (Jen); 14 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; five sisters, Dolores (Fred), Betty (Orlo), Mary Ann (Dave), Rose (Peter), Dorothy (Jim); four sisters-in-law, Gail, Joyce (Ken), Debbie (John), Lynn (Danny); and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 1, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, 250 E. Broadway, Monticello, MN, with one hour of visitation before Mass at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, December 2, at 10:30 AM at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 E. 7th St., Monticello, MN. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
