Edward “Ed” Ignatius Schmidt, of Big Lake, died at St. Cloud Hospital April 15, due to complications following a heart attack. He was 75. Edward was born May 28, 1942 in Milbank, SD to his parents, Jerry and Mary Schmidt. He married Mary Salonek-LePage on May 21, 1999. Edward was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. He loved spending time with family and friends, and traveling when possible.
Edward is survived by his wife, Mary Schmidt; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Yasuhiko Katagiri; son and daughter-in-law Jason and Karen Schmidt; step son, Napoleon LePage; step daughter and son-in-law, Josephine and Ryan Lesnau; grandchildren, Daisen (Holley) Katagiri, Elizabeth Cullen, Tyler Schmidt, Griffin Schmidt, Hunter Groover, Madison Groover and Emmett Lesnau; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Dean Parker; sister, Lila Wojahn; sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Gordy Folk; brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Lorene Schmidt; brother, Richard Schmidt; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Mary Schmidt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Eleanor Salonek; brothers-in-law, Neil Wojahn, Myron Salonek and Peter Salonek.
A celebration of Edward’s life will take place on Sat., April 21 from 2-5 p.m. at Whispering Pines Golf Course in Annandale, MN. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Edward’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
