Donald Ira Johnson, 85 of Becker, MN, died after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease surrounded by family. Funeral was held October 31 at Becker Baptist Church, Pastor Rob Olsen officiated. Burial was at the Danish cemetery north of Becker. Funeral arrangements were with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
Donnie was born June 10, 1929, to Jay and Ethel Johnson in Anoka, MN. He attended Becker Public Schools and the University of MN farm school. He came to faith in Christ as a young adult and began a life-long pursuit of knowing and following God by faith. He was united in marriage to Virginia Ruth Peterson on March 17, 1951, at the Becker United Methodist Church. He was a farmer, developer of Elkwood Estates, school board member for 27 years, member of Toastmasters public speaking club, member of Clear Lake Elevator Board and Glendorado Insurance Board. His generosity to his family, missions, Trout Lake Camp, and the work of God will live on as part of his legacy. The family would like to thank the staff of Quiet Oaks Hospice House for his care during the last weeks of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia; children – Mike (Darlene) Johnson of Milaca, Eileen (Marty) Chapman of Chaska, Dean (Wendy) Johnson of Becker, Marlys (Brian) Koenig of Hastings, Mark (Julie) Johnson of Becker, Tim (Lynel) Johnson of Becker; 18 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother Robert (Mary Lue) Johnson of Robbinsdale, MN , sister-in-law Jan Olson of Chisago City, many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Jay and Ethel Johnson; sisters Loretta Sykes and infant Cedora; and brother Bruce.
