Mass of Christian Burial was Wed. March 22 at St. Marcus Catholic Church, Clear Lake, for Abie Hemmelgarn who died Saturday at Shepherd of Grace in Becker. The Rev. Virgil Helmin officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday and prior to services Wed. Parish prayers were Tuesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Clear Lake.
Abie was born in Savannah Twp. (Becker Co.) to John & Rose (Kruse) Hemmelgarn. He married Katherine Kampa on August 23, 1944 at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Abie lived most of his life in Clear Lake and moved to Becker in 2016. He worked as a farmer for many years, drove school bus and worked as a custodian for Clearview Elementary. Abie also worked part time for Dingmann Funeral Home for many years. He was a member of St. Marcus Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at church. He was a volunteer fireman for the Clear Lake Fire Department for many years. Abie enjoyed work, taking walks and watching baseball and football.
Survivors include his wife Katie of Becker; children, Ken (Lucille) of Elk River; Ray (Gloria) of Mpls; Carol Lucius of Clear Lake; Donna (Steve) Bebus of Clear Lake; Allen (Janie) of Andover; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
