Youth Photography Workshop At Refuge Today

Looking to hone your photography skills or to get out on the refuge to take photos for the 5th Annual Youth Photography Contest?

Join us to learn some tips and tricks about nature photography!

June 15, Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge invites K-12 kids out to the refuge for a FREE youth photography workshop led by knowledgeable volunteers from the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge Photography Club. This workshop will start with a brief indoor session that focuses on composition tips and tricks and then will go outside in small groups to practice.

The workshop will be held Sat., June 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Oak Savanna Learning Center.

No experience is necessary but please bring your own camera or camera phone for the field portion, as they are not provided. Any photos taken at the workshop could be submitted to our Youth Photography Contest! We suggest that adults stay with elementary-aged participants for the duration of this workshop.

If you would like to take advantage of another opportunity to learn more about nature photography, the workshop will be preceded by a Photography Hike from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. which will meet at the Oak Savanna Trail on the Wildlife Drive. The photography hike is free and open to the public of all ages.

The Oak Savanna Learning Center is located ¼ mile west of Refuge Headquarters off Sherburne Co. Rd. 9 at 16797 289th Ave NW in Zimmerman. The Prairie’s Edge Wildlife Drive is located off of Co. Rd. 5, between Co. Rds. 4 and 9.
