It was a slow start to the Wright County Fair Wednesday, with rain showers keeping attendees away.
The 4H Food Building was the only crowded spot Wednesday afternoon, with fair attendees dropping in to get out of the rain and grab a bite to eat.

Wright County Fair Continues Through Sunday

It was a rainy start to the Wright County Fair in Howard Lake Wednesday afternoon, with few attendees and umbrellas a common sight.

Luckily the remainder of the fair promises to be sunny and pleasant, with good crowds expected.

Although the carnival rides hadn’t yet opened for the day, the rest of the fair was business as usual; with food stands and general exhibit buildings open and 4H events going on.

4H member Kallie Sylvester had already competed in two events before noon. She and her horse, Bentley, received second blue in the training event, which won them a trip to compete at the Minnesota State Fair. She also competed in egg and spoon with her horse, Ella, winning second place. Their remaining events take place Friday.

“I’m feeling pretty confident,” said Sylvester. “Ella and I have been doing well at shows lately, and she’s been doing good at practices.”

Sylvester’s fellow 4H members, sisters Kaylie and Alison Hulbert, also competed Wednesday morning, with Kaylie winning first at egg and spoon and Alison placing in the top five.

Saturday at the fair is packed full of events, including the Classic Car & Truck Show, Mud Spectacular, BMX Bicycle Show, Antique Tractor Pull, Pinewood Derby & Tractor Races, Lumberjack Championship and more.

Sunday’s events include church service, Demolition Derby, Fairest of the Fair Coronation, Karaoke Contest and Pie Eating Championship.

Numerous events are happening daily, with the ever popular water balls, bungee jumping and bingo, plus pig races, exotic animal zoo, kids coin scramble and camel and pony rides for the kids.

The Wright County Fair continues through Sunday evening. For a full schedule of events visit wrightcountyfair.org.
