Wright Co. Fair promises new shows along with fan favorites

The Wright Co. Fair is coming up fast and it looks to be as full of fun and excitement as always. Held in Howard Lake, the fair runs from Wednesday, July 20 to Sunday, July 24.

Through the next few days, 4-H and general entries are being finalized and submitted, their creators all hoping to bring home a win. Stop by the exhibitor buildings next week to see all their creativity in person and find out who took home the big prizes.

Along with Merriam’s Midway games and rides, attendees of all ages will see many of their old favorites at this year’s fair, including Kids Coin Scramble, Mutton Bustin’ Competition, Kids Pedal Tractor Pull, Tractor and Truck Pull, Combine Derby, and Demo Derby.

Roaming throughout the fairgrounds each day, the Dr. Street Magic Show will share comedic, high energy magic tricks, and with the ‘magic’ of radio control, Alfy’s World of Robotic Puppets will be visiting and sharing jokes with life size, life-like puppets.

A fan favorite of last year, Los Moralitos Circus will be back each day showcasing professional tumbling, acrobats, unicyclists, and clowns. The 5K Run and always popular Collector Car and Truck Show will be taking place Saturday, and on Sunday bike fans can check out the Motorcycle Show.

New this year, Motokazie will wow attendees with high-flying, fast paced dirt bike and atv racing Wednesday at 7 p.m. Racers will jump 70-foot triples, navigate bermed corners, and pound through the whoops. The Supercross Race consists of atv, dirt bike, and pit bike classes.

For those who prefer trying their skills with smaller vehicles, Party Crashers RC Racing will be joining the fair on Saturday with their portable RC track and RC cars and trucks. Five dollars gets each participant five minutes of racing.

Pro wrestling action can be found at the AWF Pro Wrestling ‘Fair Fight!’ at 2 p.m. Sunday, which will feature AWF TV Champion Nick ‘The Natural’ Nelson and AWF Tag Team Champions – NDS – Rylie Jackson and Levy Cruise. Also featured will be Lorebin Cometh-Darin Corbin and Heavy Metal Lore, Down Town Petey Brown, The Program’s Kyle Pro, The Massive Stonehenge, and more.

For those ready to entertain audiences themselves, Thursday’s Amateur Talent Show is open to Wright Co. residents to strut their stuff in three categories, pre-teen, teen, and open class. Prizes will be awarded and first place winners in each category will go on to compete at the 2022 Minnesota State Fair Talent Show.

Friday is Senior Citizen Day, with free admission for senior citizens, and features a program and lunch in the Hoop Building. Saturday is Military Day, with free admission to any person showing their military identification. Free admission will be extended to their spouse and children 17 and under. A program will be held on the Free Stage at 11 a.m.

The fun continues each evening with concerts over in the Wright Co. Fair Entertainment Tent, with Chopper World’s Nuttiest DJ entertaining the crowd from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, the band Menace will be featured from 7 to 11 p.m. Thursday, Red Dot Garage from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday, and on Saturday Shane Martin wraps up the fair’s evening concerts from 8 to 11:55 p.m.
