OUT WITH THE OLD. Another loveseat headed for the trash compactor last Saturday during the annual Clean-Up Day program at the Becker City Garage. Furniture seemed to be the disposal item of choice for the event here this year.
HAPPY DAY. Becker Councilwoman Tracy Bertram enjoyed her shift as a "gatekeeper" during the annual Clean-Up Day for the City of Becker last Saturday.
HEAVY LIFTING. Supervisors Randy Linn, left, and Mike Pesch handled the heavy lifting as they unloaded a steady stream of large appliances during the annual Clean-Up Day at the Haven Town Hall last Saturday. Turnout this year was much higher than average, township officials said.
PALMER MASCOTS. Treasurer Roger Johnson added a new pink unicorn to the familiar "Blue Monkey" mascot that always presides over the annual Clean-Up Day project in Palmer Township. Business was a bit slow last Saturday compared to previous years, Johnson said.

Widespread Clean Up Day Last Saturday

The annual spring clean-up day took place in three communities last Saturday, with residents turning out with varying degrees of enthusiasm to find a new place for their unwanted items.

The turn-out was “about average” for the City of Becker this year, according to Deputy Clerk Marilyn Danielson.  City Councilwoman Tracy Bertram, who was a volunteer “gatekeeper” for the event, said the entries she had signed in came in steadily, but not in overwhelming numbers.  Furniture seemed to be the most popular item for disposal in Becker this year.

Meanwhile, the numbers in Haven Township were well above average, with gatekeepers Supervisor Kathy Sims-Kosloski and David Meyers having signed-in nearly 200 vehicles each by mid-morning.   Chairman Jeff Schlingmann and Supervisors Randy Linn, Mike Pesch and Vice-Chairman Mark Knowles joined a volunteer crew that included a group of Boy Scouts in off-loading large numbers of appliances and electronics, plus many bicycles being donated to a program in St. Cloud.

The numbers were down this year in Palmer Township, according to Treasurer Roger Johnson, as a slow but steady stream of trailers and trucks made their way through the collection area behind the town hall.
