During their meeting Monday night, the Clear Lake City Council discussed the building that will be constructed along with the new well.
Engineer Keith Yapp and the council discussed a number of options for materials the building could be constructed with, including block, steel siding, corrugated steel and as a pole building.
Council Member Karen White suggested using steel studs after Public Works Supervisor Dustin Luhning expressed concern with using wood due to the high moisture content the building will contain.
Looking to keep costs down, Mayor Tim Goenner indicated he would like to see numbers for a pole building with spray foam.
The structure will be approximately 30’x 50’. Although preliminary testing on the water indicated it might not need treatment, the structure will include a block chemical room.
A discussion has held on the loan for the well and the size of the new building. Council Member Dale Powers indicated he was leaning toward the larger size, saying, “We’ll probably need the room in the future, and things only get more expensive.”
Yapp was requested to provide numbers on the newest options, which he indicated he would do quickly in order to keep the project moving. The city is hoping to approve final plans and put out for bids at their May meeting.
The city is purchasing land for the well from the Gray family as well as receiving the second half of a piece of land already donated by Howard Gray. Gary Gray informed the council they’ve met all the contingencies required by the attorney.
CL Twp.
Gray, who is the Clear Lake Twp. Chairman, approached the council to ask if they would consider renting a room and office to the township for up to two years.
The township recently acquired a firm buyer on the township hall. Because of this the last town hall meeting will be April 16, after which they will need a place to meet and store their files until the new township hall is built. Gray indicated the goal is for building to start spring 2020.
The sale of the old township building is contingent on rezoning the location to B1 central business district, currently it’s zoned as institutional. The city indicated they would take the steps to do so.
The council approved the use of city hall to the township, details to be decided.
Annexation
Gray informed the council he will be meeting with the township’s attorney on the annexation agreement next week. Once attorneys for both entities have agreed on a final draft the city and the township will review. He hopes to have it in place by June.
