After a previously failed referendum last year, St. Cloud District 742 voters approved the new Technical High School by a slim margin Tuesday, although a second referendum to renovate Apollo High School was unsuccessful.
The first question on the ballot asked voters to approve $104.5 million to build a new Technical High School. Of the over 45,700 votes, only 324 separated the two, with 50.35% voting yes and 49.65% voting no.
The new Technical High School will be built along 33rd st. South on land already owned by the district. It’s being planned to open fall 2019.
The second question asked voters to approve $38.75 million to renovate Apollo High School, although question one had to pass in order for question two to become relevant.
Of the nearly 45,500 votes, 51.48% voted no and 48.52% voted yes.
Along with the referendums, District 742 voters were asked to elect four school board members; nine candidates were vying for the four open seats.
Elected to fill those positions were incumbent Al Dahlgren and newcomers Shannon Haws, Jeff Pollreis and Monica Segura-Schwartz.
