Veterans Monument Work To Begin In Becker

A monument dedicated to current, past and future veterans is going up next to the Becker City Hall. Breaking ground  occurred Wednesday and the memorial will represent all branches of the military.

Roger Bigalke, a former Navy veteran, has been spearheading the project with the Veterans Memorial Committee. They have been working to build a veteran’s monument for several years and last year, the committee approached the City of Becker with a location just south of the entrance to city hall. The project has cleared several hurdles since then, but ultimately has been approved and the permitting is ready to go.

The city is reportedly privileged to house the monument.

“The city is honored to house the monument,” said Becker Mayor Tracy Bertram.

“The Veterans Memorial is a wonderful tribute to all who have served and I commend the committee for all their hard work.  It will be a wonderful addition to the community.”

The project will commence within the next three weeks and the plan is to have the monument finished by the end of the year and have a public unveiling at Freedom Days 2020.
