The annual Ice Cream Social at the Sherburne History Center (SHC) in Becker will begin at 6 p.m. on Tue., June 17, and continue on until 8 p.m. with free ice cream, unlimited socializing and music from the TeddyBearSkin band.
And this ice cream social will also feature one very unusual topping. Or, rather, untopping.
SHC Exec. Dir. Mike Brubaker made a pledge during the May fund-raising drive, fairly standard stuff to the effect that he would, if the drive raised $3,000 from the community, shave his head in response. It seemed a safe proposition at the time, as totals and pledges seemed to be lagging a safe distance from the challenge deadline (and the extreme haircut).
However, as of June 3, donations have topped $3,056.32, and a number of other pledges have been confirmed and are expected to arrive very shortly, SHC administrators said.
“It is with great excitement and some trepidation I can announce that we made our goal for raising donations in May,” Brubaker said this week. He further promised that, “sometime during the evening event, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., I will become a member of the “unadorned dome” club.”
The SHC is located at 10775 27th Ave., Becker, MN 55308. For more information on this and other events, phone (763) 262-4433, or contact them via e-mail at www.sherburnehistorycenter..org.
