During Tuesday’s Becker School Board Meeting, it was revealed that both Cindy Graham and Sarah Schafer announced their immediate resignations from the Becker School Board. The reasons behind their abrupt resignations were not stated during the meeting, and the two women were not present at the meeting
Back in February, at the republican caucus, Board Member Mark Swanson also expressed his decision to not run for reelection this year.
The board plans to appoint members to the board to fill the seats of Schafer and Graham. Individuals interested in the positions may apply at the district office by April 15. Members will be appointed May 2. The appointed members will serve until the normal end of the elected term for the two board members who resigned.
Open Forum
Karen Schlief (spelling uncertain) spoke during open forum as a parent of a transgender student. She spoke against the recent presentation to the school board, saying that it was offensive and hateful, and she expressed her and her student’s disappointment in the board’s decision to invite the presenters.
Superintendent’s Report
There was a staff development day March 31, which focused on wellness, science curriculum, paraprofessional training, prep time, and other items.
MCA testing has begun and will continue through mid May.
The school has received some grant funding in order to better focus on staffing for the next school year. Grants will also help fund staff development and summer opportunities.
Referendum-funded projects are continuing with the transportation building, schools, and football field.
The graduation rate for Becker was found to be at 92.9%, down slightly from 95.5% in 2020. The statewide average was 83.3%.
