Week-long activities shines, dodges rain
So the 2025 Freedom Days week prevailed after dismal weather forecasts tempted to railroad events, but true to Minnesota meteorology, most events went untouched by Mother Nature’s reckoning.
The week started out with a BBQ Bash on Saturday followed by a fun Bubble Party at Becker’s Splash Pad. The History Center held an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday and mid-day luncheoners enjoyed Tacos-in-a-Bag from Steil Insurance. Amy Chmielewski of American Family Insurance held her annual auto chip repair and raised $2,000 for the Becker Backpack Buddies program.
Wednesday, Sherburne State Bank held a Customer Appreciation lunch on their property while seniors gathered at the BCC for bingo festivities around the same time. In the evening, the local library featured Dollipops from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Thursday, tenants of the Professional Building on Sherburne Ave. held a luncheon and they raised 1,312.85 to be donated to the Becker Food Shelf. At Becker Baptist Church, youths gathered for a worship session at 7 p.m. while the Cub Scouts held a Bike Rodeo. At Charlie’s, Rollie put on a music show in the evning and at mid-day Bill’s Superette served free lunch for First Repsonders.
Friday, the Becker Farmer’s Market commenced at the BCC from 3-7 p.m. G-Will Liquors held a Spoin Wheel event around lunch time while Bill’s Family Foods served a hot dog lunch from 2-6 p.m. Unfortunately the Car Show was cancelled at the last minute due to rainy weather but Mark Kolbinger’s Salute To Veterans event at the Becker Legion went on where they featured food, drinks, awards and a concert by an Elvis Presley impersonator.
On Saturday, the parade took off from the school campus and winded its way through the city to the delight of youngsters snatching candy and goodies from the floats. A Kid Zone was held in the old downtown area while Stone Road conducted music from 7 p.m. to midnight. Becker Student, Hayden, sang the National Anthem and fireworks lit up the sky at dusk.
All-in-all, the week was delightful and the planning committee will soon be meeting to start working on plans for next year.
