The Clearwater Township Board decided it wasn’t the right time to change its recycling contract.
At the May monthly meeting, Andy Bright from Randy’s Environmental Services indicated all the containers have been delivered to residents and service has started.
He asked if the board would consider extending the contract to either seven years or 10 years. The board had originally approved a five-year contract.
He said the seven and 10 year contracts are better because the cart costs are amortized over the length of the contract. Also, with commodities and trucking costs, longer contracts are a way to help with those unknowns.
The board decided not to change what they have already approved because they felt it might interfere with their ability to negotiate the price of recycling in the future. They agreed to stay with the five-year contract.
CUP
The board recommended approval for a conditional use permit (CUP) for Jan Anderson for a platted three-lot residential subdivision near Bass Lake.
Anderson said the next step in the process is the preliminary plat approval, which will take place at the June 7 planning commission meeting at Wright County.
The county has already approved the re-zoning and the properties can meet all setbacks with a type one sewer.
Driveway Ordinance
The board continued to discuss the possibility of implementing a driveway ordinance, but didn’t make a decision yet. Clerk Jean Just will have a copy of an ordinance ready for the next meeting for the supervisors to review and make recommendations.
Road Work
The board decided not to spend more resources on Forsythe Ave. yet.
Supervisor Scott Miller said some survey work has been done by the turn-around on Forsythe Ave. He felt the township should see if there is a way to mark the right of way and possibly make the turn-around bigger.
He said it may take a lot of fill, but the township should at least get it marked for the future.
Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ludenia said he had already brought some extra dirt in. He said a lot of the issues have to do with cars being parked in the turn-around.
Supervisor Bill Langenbacher said he understood the concern, but felt it wasn’t the right time to spend money on the project. It would be a lot of tree cutting and fill being added. The board agreed to take a look at it and discuss further at the next meeting.
Fire Contract Update
Langenbacher said the City of Clearwater is not going to accept a proposal to re-negotiate the fire contact. The township offered a 10% increase instead of the 25% proposed increase. The funds will have to come out of the Town Revenue Levy.
Newsletters
The board agreed not to move ahead with producing and mailing quarterly newsletters.
At last month’s meeting there was a discussion about newsletters. Currently, they are sent out twice a year at a cost of about $600 each time.
Supervisor Rose Thelen said it wasn’t a high priority for her. The proposal was also brought before the public in attendance and some also felt it wasn’t necessary.
One possible alternative would be adding a newsletter to the website, rather than spending the money to mail them to residents.
The board agreed to talk about it at the annual meeting.
The next monthly meeting is Monday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m.
