Tom Kelly Announces Retirement

Tom Kelly has been with the County Attorney’s Office representing the citizens of Wright County for almost 37 years, the past 22 as the elected county attorney. He started his career as a prosecutor for Wright County in March 1984, was Chief of Criminal Division 1990 to 1998 and elected to County Attorney in 1999. Kelly will be retiring at the end of December.

Kelly will be recommending to the County Board that Chief of Criminal Division, Brian Lutes, be appointed to serve out his term as County Attorney. 

Kelly always stressed the “Team Approach” to prosecution which requires a working relationship with law enforcement that instills credibility, confidence, cooperation, teamwork and efficiency.

“I am proud of the working relationship between my office and law enforcement for all these years.,” he said. “I am grateful for all their support over the years.”

Kelly wished to thank his support staff. legal administrative assistants and assistant county attorneys.

“My philosophy was to hire the best people possible and then stay out of their way and let them do their job,” he said. 

“Lastly, but most importantly, I would like to thank my family Holly, Megan and Matt for all their love, support and patience throughout the years.”
