The ExCel Award represents Excellence in Community, Education, and Leadership. It is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities, and who work voluntarily in their community.
Jazlyn Toedter and Carter Callahan were selected as the 2020-21 Becker High School ExCel Award nominees from BHS.
Toedter has played a leadership role on the girls’ tennis and girls’ lacrosse team with All Conference and All Conference Academic awards, choir, academic leadership as an Honor Roll student, National Honor Society; student leadership as a part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Breakfast SHOUT, and Building Better Bulldogs. She has also played a significant role as a student and worship team leader at her church.
Callahan has played a leadership role on the football team and as a team captain on the basketball team, choir, academic leadership as an Honor Roll student, multiple student of the month selections; student leadership as a peer tutor and a member of Building Better Bulldogs. Carter has also played a significant role within his church and as a youth basketball and football coach.
Jazlyn and Carter’s applications have been submitted to the Minnesota State High School League and the State ExCEL Award recipients will be selected by an independent panel of judges from schools throughout Minnesota. Award recipients will be announced via the League website on Feb. 1, 2021 with each recipient being recognized on 45TV during the broadcast of the 2021 winter tournaments.
