Tips for Those Still Seeking REAL ID

The Wright County License Center (WCLC) is continuing to see many people daily which means longer wait times for customers. Most foot traffic is still attributed to customers who are seeking Real ID.

Things to remember:

If one’s license or ID has a gold star in the top right corner, that means you are Real ID compliant.

Upgrading to a Real ID or Enhanced license is not required. Applying for a passport is not required. However, one will be required to provide a Real ID compliant form of identification if one is boarding a domestic flight or entering federal facilities, nuclear power plants or military bases.

The Wright County Government Center is not a federal facility. One does not need a Real ID compliant ID to enter local government centers.

A standard driver’s license will still work for driving. A standard driver’s license or ID will still be accepted for basic things like registering to vote, banking, buying alcohol or tobacco, etc.

A passport is still the top travel document and will work to travel by air anywhere in the world.

If one is planning on visiting WCLC to apply for a Real or Enhanced License or ID, make sure to read over the required document list to gather all appropriate documents. The WCLC cannot accept any electronic documents. As a reminder, if the document one is bringing in is not on the approved list, WCLC is not able to accept it.

Processing times for Real/Enhanced driver’s license or IDs are currently at 10-12 weeks.
