Swcd Hosting Watershed Event

The Sherburne Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will host the third-annual Mississippi River Watershed Event on Thursday, April 24 from 4-7 p.m. at the Monticello Community Center, according to Watershed Coordinator Tiffany Determan.

The gathering is the last of three annual events that have been created to give residents a chance to meet with conservation experts and their neighbors to discuss the status of area waters, Determan said.  Invites will also include lake association members, representatives from federal, state and local government agencies, planners, town and county board members, fisher-persons, boaters and anyone else interested in local lakes and streams.

Attendees will have a chance to view maps that detail waters identified as priority items for lake and stream restoration projects, talk with neighbors and SWCD staff about potential improvement projects and learn techniques for protecting lakes and streams in the community.

Participants will also enjoy light refreshments, a raffle, a series of interactive displays and some aquatic-themed games as well.

The Monticello Community Center is located at 505 Walnut St., Monticello, MN 55362. For more information, contact SWCD Watershed Coordinator Tiffany Determan via e-mail at www.tdeterman@sherburneswcde.org, or call (763) 241-1170 ext. 4.
