Support Your Local Library Through ‘Locally Growin’ Fundraiser

The Great River Regional Library’s (GRRL) annual fundraiser is once again underway. Starting last year, the campaign, previously known as “High $5,” became “Locally Growin,’” with 100% of the money raised by each library staying at that library.

The mission of the fundraiser is to help each GRRL branch raise the funds they need to purchase special items for their own library.

Each of the 32 branches in the GRRL system has its own unique goal. Becker Library’s fundraising goal is $400 this year. The money raised will be used for things such as bean bag chairs for the ‘teen’ area of the library, a special Dr. Seuss Day performance by the entertaining and family-friendly “Magic Bob,” and prizes for their upcoming Summer Reading Program.

“The Becker staff is giving donors a chance to voice how the money raised should be spent,” said Becker Librarian Jeannette Burkhardt. “We came up with the three options, and as each donor returns their donation slip we give them a token to put in the box of their choice. At the end of the month, the box with the most votes will be how we spend the money.”

Clearwater Library’s goal this year is once again $740, the address number on the library’s door. The money raised will be used for STEM supplies, a rug for the children’s area, a giant parachute and prizes for the summer and winter reading programs.

“The goal last year proved to be a lucky number as we not only met our goal but surpassed it,” said Clearwater Librarian Cyrene Bastian. “With your donation, the library is able to expand the prizes and incentives for our reading programs.”

All donations, no matter the size, help the libraries get one step closer to their goals. The donations are tax deductible, and can be given directly to the Becker and Clearwater library service desks or donated online at griver.org/locally-growin.

“Surpassing last year’s goal makes it evident that Clearwater Library patrons value their library and all the services we offer,” said Bastian.

GRRL’s ‘Locally Growin’ fundraiser continues through the end of April.

GRRL provides library services at 32 public libraries in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. GRRL supplies the residents of Central Minnesota with nearly one million books, CDs and DVDs, 250 public computers, programming and information services.
