Cast and crew are keeping their eyes on the skies as they prepare to open “The Aliens Are Coming!,” a comic farce by Tim Kelly that will close out the theatre season at Becker High School with a three-day run beginning next weekend.
The production is directed by Joe Rand, with sets and lighting by Rich Kimmerle. Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Fri., May 8 and Sat., May 9, with a closing matinee at 4 p.m. on Sun., May 10, all in the Performing Arts Center at BHS. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, senior citizens and active military personnel, and are available on-line at the district web site and at the door before each show.
The action takes place in and around the Meteorite Inn, a dilapidated pile situated on a lonely desert highway. Doug Albright and his sister Peggy, the owners of the shabby inn, decide to use their proximity to a secret U.S. Government base known only as “Area 502", where the authorities are rumored to keep alien prisoners confined.
In short order, the inn is overrun with excited UFO believers and questionable quest speakers who claim that they've been abducted by aliens and the ever-present media. And after that the army moves in, followed by some real, or imagined, alien invaders who show up to add to the comic confusion in this slapstick romp.
