Sheriff Brott Presents Life Saving Awards

Two Sherburne County deputies and a correctional officer were recognized Tuesday night for their life-saving efforts.

Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott introduced them at the beginning of the Board of Commissioners meeting and presented them with plaques.

Present at the meeting was a Zimmerman man and his family, who thanked Sgt. Chris Aleshire and Deputy Dean Cichy for reviving him after he had suffered a cardiac arrest.

Jail Sgt. Bradley Bohn was recognized for saving a fellow correctional officer who was choking in the jail.

Sgt. Aleshire and Deputy Cichy found Michael John Suelter, 45, not breathing and with no pulse when they arrived at his Zimmerman residence the morning of Dec. 30.

Cichy and Aleshire began chest compressions but couldn’t get a pulse. They placed pads from an Automated External Defibrillator onto Suelter’s chest and received an instruction from the machine to shock Suelter.

After one shock and additional CPR, Suelter still wasn’t breathing and no pulse was detected.

The AED instructed them to shock him again. Again, they felt no pulse. They continued CPR and, with assistance from Princeton firefighters, restored Suelter’s pulse and breathing.

He was transported by air ambulance to North Memorial Medical Center. He was treated by doctors and spent about a week in the hospital before being released. He is making good progress in his recovery.

In Bohn’s case, a fellow correctional officer was choking in a hallway in the jail and was starting to get blue in the lips when Bohn used the Heimlich maneuver to clear the officer’s airway.
Congratulations to Deputy Cichy, Sgt. Aleshire and Sgt. Bohn for their life-saving efforts.
