Santiago Twp. Holds Short Dec. Meeting

With a short agenda and what may have been one of the quickest township meetings in history, the Santiago Twp. board of supervisors wrapped up their meeting Wednesday night in 15 minutes.

The board was informed Becker Twp. had received a lower bid for their re-graveling project than Santiago had received, believed to be from Helmin. The project will begin in the spring.

The board discussed whether a spring road tour would be appropriate before they met with Becker Twp. to discuss the future of 67th Street; the discussion was put on hold until after the annual meeting.

The Santiago Lions updated the board on their recent projects, which included a Christmas party for local kids in partnership with Bailey Ray’s, and the delivery of gift baskets to the elderly in the surrounding community.

“I just wanted to say the Lions are doing a great job,” said Supervisor Jeff Pappenfus. “The baskets you’re delivering are fantastic.”

A motion carried approving Resolution 2018-3, designating annual polling place.

The fire department reported 27 calls for November, three of them in Santiago Twp. that included two medical and one car accident.

The fire department asked for and was given permission to purchase new pediatric and adult artificial defibrillator pads for the four defibrillators located in the township. The pads are good for two years.

The sheriff reported points of contact for November, including 19 traffic, five security alarms and one ATV complaint.

The annual Board of Equalization meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 8 at 9 a.m.

The next Santiago Twp. meeting will be Jan. 9 at 7 p.m.
