Santiago Twp. was busier than usual last Saturday, with 70 households stopping by the township’s annual cleanup day to drop off unwanted items.
“It’s so much fun,” said Shelley Jehoich, who has been organizing the event since it first began. “I get to meet with so many people in the township.”
This year’s cleanup day filled up one and a half garbage trucks, mostly with mattresses and furniture. An entire cage was filled with used tires, and plenty of electronics and appliances were brought in, although the number was down from previous years.
The township also received quite a few large, outdated television sets.
Nine volunteers helped during the event, all whom have volunteered in previous years. A special thank you was extended to Ray Mulvey from Bailey Ray’s Roadhouse, who brought the workers hot ham and cheese sandwiches to help keep them going.
