Santa and Mrs. Claus (Doc and Jane Gohman) paid a surprise visit to the Young at Heart group on Thursday, bringing gifts and treats for all.

 

Along with playing cards and enjoying a delicious pork lunch, attendees at this month’s event joined together to celebrate the season by singing Christmas carols; Nancy Lidberg accompanied the group on piano.

 

Santa handed out gift bags while Mrs. Claus distributed candy canes, with most guests decked out in loud Christmas finery, from colorful sweaters to patterned ties and blinking necklaces to hats and antlered headbands.

 

There were also a number of door prizes for lucky winners.

 

Young at Heart meets at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater on the third Thursday of each month, with card playing beginning at 10:30 and lunch at noon, followed by a program. The group is non-denominational, and all area seniors are welcome and encouraged to attend.
