During their meeting Tuesday night, the Clear Lake Twp. board of supervisors discussed a number of road updates, township hall and the new fill station.
Road Report
Twp. Engineer Terrance Vander Eyk presented a map and list of roads he had compiled and submitted to the county for participation in the federal highway safety improvement road striping program. Roads approved for the program will have six-inch fog lines applied for only 10% of the cost, $106 per mile.
Eyk informed the board he and Supervisor Gary Gray had met with representatives from BNSF Railroad to review the condition of the 70th Ave. railroad crossing. After inspection, all agreed repair is needed.
He provided the board with a copy of the agreement between BNSF Railroad and the township, which states the township’s portion of the improvement won’t exceed $30,000. The township will also be responsible for traffic control during repairs.
The project, which is estimated to take around a week to complete, won’t take place until next summer and will be included in next year’s road budget.
A motion carried to move forward with the project.
Replacement of the sidewalk on the north side of township hall has been completed. The township’s portion of the cost is $870; the city’s portion is $2,030. A motion carried for partial payment of the project.
Fill Station
Gray informed the board Bogart Pederson had surveyed the area on Co. Road 8 where the new fill station will be built. NextEra Energy Resources is leasing the property, which has an existing well and irrigation system, and is allowing a fill station to be created there for use by Clear Lake and other fire departments.
After the horseshoe roadway has been drawn up a construction plan will be drafted and a legal description for an easement on the adjacent Imholte property will be put together. Informal approval has been received from the county to put in two driveways as part of the project.
If maintenance is needed the Imholtes will pay up to $1,000; the township will pay 20% of anything over that amount.
A motion carried to continue with the easement process.
Town Hall
Gray presented the revised town hall building plan, explaining the redesigns and the reasonings behind them. An open house will be held in the spring to get input from residents.
A discussion was held on whether to continue the contract with the realtor selling the old township hall. As the new building won’t be going up in the near future it was decided to keep it listed for a while longer, however, the realtor will be told all offers received must be presented to Gray no matter what the amount is.
Simple Plat
Craig Wensmann approached the board representing Glen Gohmann to explain the simple plat being proposed in Ellen Acres 2nd edition and to inform them comments from the county had been responded to.
Seeing no issues, the board indicated they would send positive comments to the county.
Other Business
The sheriff reported 50 calls for service for October, including 20 traffic violations, two fires, seven medicals and two thefts, one of a battery from a combine and one of tools out of a truck.
The next Clear Lake Twp. meeting will be Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
