The Lynden Twp. board of supervisors discussed a number of road issues and updates during their recent meeting.
David Fanger approached the board to inquire about the possibility of adding asphalt or double chip coat to Franklin Rd.
The board discussed the past Franklin Rd. feasibility study, the township’s tarring policy and the petition process. It was noted the double chip coat on 161st St. will be under observation for a few more years to determine the longevity of the surface before the process is implemented elsewhere.
The board determined it would consider amending the township’s tarring policy to address possible assessments relating to the cost of double chip coating.
Supervisor Anne Ackerman asked Supervisor Dennis Niemi to have traffic counters placed on Franklin Rd. to determine if the volume of traffic warrants further study.
The repair of holes cut into Hubble Rd. for the construction of a fence by property owner Dan Jenniges has been completed. The township will send a letter to Jenniges requesting reimbursement of all expenses incurred as a result of the violation.
Jenniges must install a gate and plant trees per the approved screening plan in order to be in compliance.
Niemi told the board he was questioning the amount billed by Schendzielos for crack filling, and will review the bid with the contractor. He is preparing a request for proposal for interested road contractors for summer road maintenance.
Niemi informed the board he had ordered a drain sleeve for the rain garden infiltration area on Alder Rd., which he believes will allow the rain garden to function properly even when the ground is frozen.
OTHER BUSINESS
The property owner on Co. Rd. 145 approached the board in regard to a violation letter that she received. She informed them she works on personal vehicles on the property, she isn’t running a repair business.
Supervisor Dave Johnson is preparing a request for proposal for recycling service.
Insurance verification from Midco is pending concerning the encroachment agreements for utility work, and Frontier has not yet returned the signed agreement. Johnson will follow up.
The variance application submitted by Ryan and Nathan Nordlund has been withdrawn.
Niemi informed the board he had contacted the DNR regarding the beaver dam at the Plum Creek bridge; if there is no new beaver activity he will research removal options.
James Kantor informed the board the internet quote from Century Link was high; he will purchase a cable and antenna that should improve internet speed through the current provider, Arvig.
Newly appointed Deputy Treasurer Randy Pullis was introduced.
Stearns Co. Sheriff candidate Steve Soyka introduced himself and his experience.
The next Lynden Twp. meeting will be July 2 at 7 p.m.
